3 steps to develop your intuition

Q: How can I develop my intuition?

A: I've got 3 tips for you. But Before we begin...

...what is intuition?

Intuition is a form of information that isn’t based in hard-data.

It often arrives as an impulse or a feeling.

Thus, if we’re too rigid in our favoring of logic and analysis, we will ignore it and thus atrophy its potential to guide us throughout our life.

It’s not that logic and hard-evidence aren’t valuable. Rather, it’s about recognizing that these culturally approved methods for making decisions have their own limits.

Welcoming intuition begins by accepting that there is an additional channel of information at your disposal.

When intuition is utilized and related with in a positive way, it can accelerate your trajectory or deepen your relationship with life, much more than hard-data alone ever could.

It’s bonus material. And it’s good to pay attention to it because:

We are most effective in life when we have access to both intuition and logic, and have the creative capacity to navigate between them.

Step 1 to strengthen your intuition:

Stop taking ownership over your own thoughts.

You’ll be much more receptive to intuition when you stop believing that your thoughts solely originate from inside of your head.

This is exactly how a hard-data person will get tripped up when developing their intuition.

A more beneficial view would be that your thoughts are like neutral spirits that come & go out of the bathhouse of your mind. So, perhaps some of your thoughts belong to other people, or some of your thoughts are from an inner guide. Not you.

Regardless of the metaphor, loosen your grip on any belief that your thoughts belong to you.

Step 2 to strengthen your intuition:

Don’t become attached to whatever you find.

Remain curious and detached.

Use both avenues of information [hard-data and intuition] as you assess whatever is happening in your life.

And whatever you do, DO NOT close down if ever your intuition is “wrong.”

Intuition is neither right or wrong; it’s simply a nudge that we receive throughout our life,

or even throughout our day.

So, working with intuition is about receptivity and non-attachment: be open to receiving, and also non-attached to the outcome.

In putting down the sword of reason, you open.

By attaching to the outcome, you close.

It’s a dance; a beautiful balancing act that you must develop and befriend within yourself.

Step 3 to strengthen your intuition:

Find your access point.

What state of mind do you need to be in to feel your intuition? Do you need to be sitting down, or standing up? Walking or remaining still?

Do you feel it through sensation, or through words/thought? Does it well up from within you, or does it arise outside of you,

like a cloud of awareness?

Is it literally a “gut feeling,”

or a tingling up your spine?

For me, my intuition comes when I’m fairly calm and not thinking about myself.

Thus, it comes readily when I’m working with people as a mentor or coach because my entire attention is on them; it’s like my sense of self leaves the room as I rest my awareness elsewhere.

For other people, attention on self can be helpful. There’s no right or wrong. We’re all different; accepting that will help you to figure out what works best for you.
